What we do
We:
license new financial institutions;
assess the safety implications of mergers, acquisitions and major changes to financial institutions' business operations;
monitor the financial position and outlook of institutions;
assess risks in financial institutions and their control systems;
manage problem situations and at risk institutions; and
enforce directions to protect policyholders, depositors and superannuation fund members.
APRA teams also provide specialist policy advice, risk management and consulting services to front-line supervisors. Highly skilled economists, accountants, lawyers, statisticians and actuaries analyse:
asset pricing;
risk measurement and management;
legislative issues;
corporate governance; and
linkages between the financial system and the macro-economy.
